My sophmore year in high school we had to do a safety procedures project to demonstrate that we knew the rules and can handle ourselves in the lab. The demonstration had to effectively teach others the rules as well. I decided a well written poem would be my best approach, but wanted to appeal to most everyone. So it became a fun little rap that could easily stick in the mind. Haha I just found it and wanted to share. If I can find the video I made for it, I would totally post that too. Great memories.
{Verse 1}
Mixing chemicals, periodic tables
All come with Chemistry
But before you able to participate
You gotta learn a little about safety
The chemicals are not for you to drink
Think!
Before you put the chemicals down the sink
Ask the teacher if she want you to
And follow all the instructions given to you
You Drop a glass, clean it up
Just remember you must wear gloves
Never pick up glass with your hands
For obvious reasons, you understand
And tell the teacher right away
Know where the safety equipment lay
It just might save your life one day
Cuz if you don’t, you just may pay
Hey
{Chorus}
Know what you should
And if you could
Work under the fume hood
When stuff just don’t smell, to good
[And you know]
When the stuffs out of place
Man, clean up your space
Be safe, and you can have a nice day
[oooh]
Know what you should
And if you could
Work under the fume hood
When stuff just don’t smell, to good
[And you know]
When the stuffs out of place
Man, clean up your space
Be safe, and you can have a nice day
{Verse 2}
Accidents, are surely prone
That’s why you never work alone
You just puttin yourself in the danger zone
And horsing around, Just get you thrown
Mixing chemicals, show the reaction
Memorizing tables, pure satisfaction
Horsing around, there’s a distraction
Got to learn the rules before there’s a disaster
Dangling hair and loose attire
All in which, can catch on fire
Dress properly and your success is higher
Use a fire blanket to put out the fire
Never go sniff up all the fumes
Cuz if you do, your brain might be doomed
And Handle acids with much care
Or else get a burn you cannot bare
It might just mess up the way you stare
And Don’t run around the room in panic
Be calm, take a breath
And Use the shower, that’s why it’s there
{Chorus}
Know what you should
And if you could
Work under the fume hood
When stuff just don’t smell, to good
[And you know]
When the stuffs out of place
Man, clean up your space
Be safe, and you can have a nice day
[oooh]
Know what you should
And if you could
Work under the fume hood
When stuff just don’t smell, to good
[And you know]
When the stuffs out of place
Man, clean up your space
Be safe, and you can have a nice day
