Sometime in the year 2012, rumors of a radical space mission to colonize on a planet outside of Earth had finally been confirmed. The idea of life outside the miracle planet will no longer be a myth or idea for speculation, but a very clear reality when the Dutch promised to send over a hundred volunteers on a one way journey to a new world. They would build a massive vault, or space station on the planet, to house its settlers and really take the idea of space travel to unimaginable heights. In the year 2023, Mars One was a go.
The first few years after the initial group of settlers arrived were a difficult few. The mission called for the construction of crop and water chambers to house the planets food and water resources for the colonies underground. A portion of those chambers were to be used for general farming and water conversion sectors to keep a running supply of each necessity at all times. As the population grew, a new chamber for either necessity was to be built for every 400 new arrivals. Leaks in the system caused either food to spoil or water to evaporate in 90% of the chambers shortly after their construction and several sectors for conversion and farming were lost. Being as the journey to Mars takes over 6 weeks to complete, many of the original settlers died off before repairs and reinforcements could be done on the red planet. Disease befell on the colony during this time as well, causing unbelievable loss of life and threatened the continuation of the Mars One mission in its entirety.
All was not lost. Despite the several hiccups in the mission, the chambers were repaired, cures were found, and the colony grew. The Earth sent several High Officials to Mars after the completion of the initial Vault and established a working government that closely resembled the American constitution to allow more freedom to advance this new civilization. It appeared that the Mars One Mission had been a success.
However, in the year 2067, Earth received a distorted transmission from the red planet that appeared to be a distress call for help. The nature of the situation could not be made clear, but they were able to clearly decipher a single chilling line from the message that read, “We are not alone”. All eyes were glued to TV’s, telescopes, and the radio as Earth sent a small army of volunteers from all over the world to investigate the strange happenings on Mars.
Once the army vessel landed on the red planet communication had finally been restore and reports came pouring in. There had been a breach in several sectors, and blood painted the walls and hallways of various chambers. It appeared a war, no, a slaughtering had taken place since that last transmission. One of the photographers that volunteered to accompany the army on this mission snapped several photos of strange weapons and claw marks laid around the halls and sent them back to Earth for review along with a message:
“We found several survivors in one of the labs and they claim they began hearing strange noises coming from the vents and a team of officers went to investigate and never returned. Another team was sent several days later and a single member of that team came back to report strange Beings were rounding up people and shipping them off to who knows where. Anyone who tries to resist are being slaughtered like animals. We have managed to seal off those sectors that have been compromised but there is only a matter of time before they figure out a way to get past those seals. We need an extraction team immediately. Thousands of lives are at stake and we do not have the proper means to protect ourselves in here! Please…..”
All communication was lost.
It would appear that Mars was not as deserted as Earth had thought, and they were intruding on Martian territory; interrupting their way of life actually. Earth would send several more teams over the years to try and save their fellow companions, causing an all-out war of the worlds in the process. This battle would change life as it was known for both Mars and Earth alike, forever.
