I will never forget the courage
Of those who fought for me.
Who fought for my freedom,
Who fought for our country,
Even when they were accused of looking like the enemy.
Some of us were prisoners,
Others still in prison,
Held captive in our own country
Wanting to tell our story.
But will they listen?
Tell me where would we go?
Where could we turn?
What should we learn
From those left in the crossroads?
This is not the end,
It is only the beginning.
Nothing can hide what we once were,
But anything can cloud who we are meant to be.
And I’m finally ready to tell the world my story.
Venice Renee-Lynn Hughes
Actually the first poem made for this series of poetry. I recently found the beginning and the end so I can finally share them. The end coming soon.
