One of the items on my lifetime “To Do” list is write a book and get it published. I think that would be really cool. I’m not talking bout a book of poetry, though that would be pretty cool too, but an actual fiction novel. Problem is, I just never seem to be able to stay focused on it. I have the whole concept of my main novel in my head, but cannot get it on paper for the life of me. Haha this is much harder than I thought it was going to be.
So, there was this challenge recently to write a flash fiction story with only 100 words about a kiss between 2 strangers. 1. I did not realize how flipping fast 100 words can go by and 2. I was actually completely focused and completed it in like 30 minutes. I felt pretty accomplished. This challenge made me realize that my problem may be that I am taking way too much on and need to tackle this project in steps. As I’m writing the story, I pretty much jump around to how I want the story to end, what i want to happen to this character, how I am going to start my prologue, etc etc. I need to pretty much pick something, and set a goal. This challenge had a set goal of 100 and a clear topic or theme, which was a kiss between strangers. I guess I just need to create structure and guidelines and just check each thing off as I complete it. Yea, yea I think that will work.
So anyways, since I really haven’t had much experience writing stories outside of poetry before, I think I am going to write a series of short stories and hopefully get some feedback. This way I can see where I need help and really make my main book worth while.
Well, this should be interesting enough. Just wanted to clear my head so I can actually go to bed. Ciao!
